It’s one of the best spots for kitesurfing in the world, particularly between July and January.

The natural sandy beach in front of Barra Grande stretches 12 km from the Lagoa in the west to Cajueiro da Praia in the east.

Most roads are still sandy tracks except the main drag which is cobbled.

There are some shops and bars but no nightlife apart from a few very nice restaurants.

The quantity of surprisingly good restaurants is growing from year to year.

Mobile phones are unlikely to work but wi-fi (Whatsapp) works nearly everywhere even in the beach-bars.
